Gradska šetnja!

A City Stroll!

Our first full day in Zagred began with a beautiful drive through the city followed by a walking tour through the streets. Zagreb has been compared by many to the feel and charm of Vienna and many of us agreed. We began by walking through Mirogoj Park Cemetery, a common place for locals to stroll around. Many, many years ago, Zagreb moved all the cemeteries through out the city to this one central location which spans over three football fields. We also saw St. Mark’s Church, St. Catherine’s Church, Parliament, Government Palace and walked through the Stone Gate. The icon of Zagreb is St. Stephen’s Cathedral which towers over much of the city.

We all had some time to stroll through the local farmer’s market, cafes, and shops before heading to Kumrovec. Here we walked through the village where Tito was born, another very quaint homestead. On to Gresna Gorica for a family style dinner of soup, salad, and of course, a platter of meat and potatoes! This time we got to try veal and duck from a nearby farm!
