The Opolo Mountain Zinfandel is the wine that started it all for us in 1999 and it continues to make waves in our milestone 25th anniversary year.
Indeed, the new release 2022 Mountain Zinfandel just earned a Double Gold medal and 96 points for “Best in Class” at the Central Coast Wine Competition. That’s quite a statement, considering all of the great Zinfandels produced by our peers in the Central Coast wine country.
Made predominantly with fruit from the westside coastal mountains of Paso Robles, the 2022 vintage embodies the trademark Mountain Zinfandel style: rich, bold, fruit-forward and lively through the finish.
This is a wine that goes to the heart of our origins as an independent family-owned winery. “We made a big bet on Paso Robles Zinfandel from the very beginning of Opolo, and the Mountain Zinfandel has been our flagship ever since,” says co-owner Rick Quinn.
In the 2022 Mountain Zinfandel, our Willow Creek District estate vineyards set the tone with beautiful structure and varietal purity. Grapes from other areas including the Adelaida District and Templeton Gap District bring a layer of ripe, jammy and spicy Zinfandel character. The result is a wine that captures the iconic expression of Paso Robles Zinfandel.
In the words of co-owner David Nichols, “Zinfandel has been a mainstay in our region since the 1800s, and we’re proud to honor that heritage as a specialist in Paso Robles Zinfandel.”
